H.E Dr Hala bint Mazyed Altuwaijri
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s commitment to the promotion and protection of human rights is firmly rooted in the principles of Islamic Sharia and the values of Saudi society. These principles are embedded in the Kingdom’s legislative framework, foremost among which is the Basic Law of Governance, which establishes a comprehensive foundation for safeguarding and advancing human rights. The establishment of the Human Rights Commission reflects this commitment in practice. The Commission is mandated to promote and protect human rights in accordance with international standards, to enhance awareness of human rights principles, and to contribute to their effective implementation in a manner consistent with Islamic Sharia. In fulfilment of this mandate, the Commission undertakes a range of responsibilities designed to advance its objectives. The Commission’s work is further strengthened by the continued support of the Kingdom’s leadership, represented by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister. This support is reflected in the continued development of the Commission’s legal and institutional framework, reinforcing the Kingdom’s commitment to advancing human rights. Since the launch of Saudi Vision 2030, the Kingdom has undergone significant reforms and transformative developments across multiple sectors. In the field of human rights, these developments have encompassed legislative and institutional reforms, judicial procedures, and a wide range of implementation measures. The scope, scale, and pace of these reforms have positioned the Kingdom among leading examples of progress in the field of human rights. Building on this progress, the Commission, together with its Board members, staff, and partners across the governmental and non-governmental sectors, remains committed to further strengthening the promotion and protection of human rights. Through continuous development and collaboration, the Commission contributes to achieving the ambitions of Saudi Vision 2030 and to advancing the Kingdom’s standing among leading nations in this field, while placing human dignity and well-being at the core of its mandate.
