Sustainable development has long been a national priority in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and is reflected in its long-term strategic vision and development planning. Since the launch of the Kingdom’s successive development plans in 1970, efforts have focused on enhancing the wellbeing of individuals, expanding opportunities, and improving quality of life across all regions of the Kingdom.
The Kingdom reaffirmed its commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) following their adoption in 2015 and continues to support their implementation through national policies, strategies, and institutional frameworks. In this regard, the Ministry of Economy and Planning plays a central role in coordinating national efforts and aligning development initiatives with the SDGs.
HRC Sustainable Development Objectives
As per its statute, Human Rights Commission (HRC) was established to protect and promote human rights in accordance with universal human rights standards in all areas and to promote awareness and contribute to enforcement of these rights. HRC is the authority vested with the jurisdiction to express opinion and extend advice as regards human rights issues. HRC’s Organizational Chart included many competences directly linked to the 17 UN SDGs. As a government agency, HRC seeks to contribute to realizing SDGs, as embodied in many programs, initiatives and services, in order to achieve alignment with development goals, objectives and relevant indicators.
HRC Sustainable Development Pillars
As part of KSA government ecosystem, HRC works on several dimensions to realize SDGs, most notably:
HRC is constantly working on developing its business and providing its services in an easy and accessible electronic manner that supports economic development, and saves time and effort for its beneficiaries. This gives HRC service beneficiaries plenty of time to carry out their activities and work without the need to visit HRC or any of its branches. In addition, when launching its e-services, HRC takes into account the flexibility and connection with other government agencies, if necessary, to benefit from such services in integration with other government services.
HRC has paid great attention to shift into e-transactions. In this regard, HRC is working to follow the best practices and means to communicate with all segments of society, citizens and residents in all regions of the Kingdom, to save effort and expenses, speed communication and decide on procedures and transactions. HRC provided 11 e-services, and its E-Services Portal obtained the Green Range, +91% in total, topping the justice sector.
This help mitigating paperwork for HRC website visitors, reducing the delivery time for any service, saving time, effort and congestion within the city, as well as minimizing pollution and waste of energy and raw materials.
HRC is keen to enhance its efforts and partnerships to create job opportunities, and pays special attention to human resources, especially women, by supporting women’s work, providing them with opportunities in various business sectors, and opening many opportunities for them to participate in the labor market and the advancement of society.
